Norway Explores E-Invoicing for Businesses to Boost Competitiveness and Curb Financial Crime

The Norwegian Ministry of Finance is taking significant steps towards enhancing the country's business sector by investigating the introduction of digital bookkeeping and mandatory e-invoicing requirements for businesses. The initiative aims to foster competitiveness and reduce financial crime.

The investigation will assess the need for digital bookkeeping, electronic accounting systems, and mandatory e-invoicing between private entities. One potential solution includes setting requirements for accounting systems that ensure e-invoicing functionality, with system suppliers being held responsible for the integration. The Danish bookkeeping model is being considered as a possible framework.

The government plans to conclude the investigation by mid-June 2025. While timelines for implementing the e-invoicing system are still pending, businesses should stay alert for further updates on these changes, which are expected to modernize financial practices in Norway.
