Hungary Takes First Steps Toward ViDA Implementation with Stakeholder Survey

Hungary has officially begun its preparations for aligning with the European Commission’s VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) initiative. The Ministry of National Economy (NGM) recently launched a dedicated project to pave the way for a national framework supporting e-invoicing and digital data reporting as envisioned in the ViDA reform package.

Collaborative Approach to Modern VAT Reporting

To ensure the upcoming changes are both practical and well-informed, the NGM has partnered with KPMG to conduct an autonomous stakeholder survey. The initiative seeks to engage a wide range of professionals by collecting their perspectives on current invoicing, VAT compliance, and digital reporting workflows.

This outreach aims to better understand the operational realities of those who will be most affected by the future mandate. Participants were invited to complete the survey by April 18, 2025, offering their insights to help shape a regulatory and technical foundation that supports a seamless transition to digital VAT practices.

Building the Infrastructure for ViDA

This early-stage effort underscores Hungary’s commitment to contributing to the broader EU agenda of harmonizing and digitizing VAT compliance across member states. The NGM’s initiative includes laying the groundwork for the technological, organizational, and procedural systems that will enable real-time VAT data sharing and structured e-invoicing.
