Peppol Authority in France Soon to Be Established

France is on the way to establishing its own Peppol Authority, marking a significant step forward in the implementation of the French CTC (Continuous Transaction Controls) mandate. This initiative represents a major milestone in the development of digital transaction frameworks within the country.

On December 13, 2024, it was announced that the French Administration would take on the responsibilities of a Peppol Authority. Until the French Administration is fully prepared to assume this role, OpenPeppol will serve as an interim Peppol Authority for France.

The primary function of a Peppol Authority is to oversee and regulate the deployment and operation of the Peppol network within a specific nation.

Its core duties include:

  • Accrediting Peppol access points and service providers,
  • Ensuring compliance with Peppol standards and regulations,
  • Offering guidance and support to businesses and public sector organizations on how to effectively use the Peppol framework.

The creation of a Peppol Authority in France is a pivotal step in positioning Peppol as the primary interoperability framework and infrastructure for certified service providers (PDPs) under the French mandate. Over the past two years, OpenPeppol, in collaboration with FNFE and GENA, has also conducted a successful Proof of Concept (PoC) to evaluate the Peppol network's compatibility with French mandate requirements. This PoC, which concludes in Q4 2024, will provide critical insights to guide the technical evolution of Peppol in France.
