Australia Begins Transition to PINT A-NZ E-Invoicing Standard
Australia is set to transition to the PINT A-NZ e-invoicing specification, replacing the current Peppol BIS 3.0 standard. The adoption process began on September 15, 2024, with the PINT format becoming mandatory for B2G e-invoicing and B2B transactions when agreed upon by parties.
Key Deadlines and Changes:
- November 15, 2024: All invoices, credit notes, and self-bills must comply with the new PINT specification.
- May 15, 2025: The Peppol BIS 3.0 standard is fully retired.
The PINT specification brings key updates, such as revised business process identifiers and the introduction of a wildcard document type identifier scheme. It also streamlines or eliminates several business rules, simplifying the e-invoicing process.
Promotion of Peppol E-Invoicing
The Australian Treasury is actively encouraging businesses to adopt Peppol e-invoicing. Over the next three years, businesses will be required to adopt Peppol standards based on their size, in the following order:
- Large suppliers with a turnover of AUD 50 million or more
- Medium-sized suppliers with a turnover between AUD 10 million and AUD 50 million
- All other suppliers.
Regional and Government Goals
The PINT specification aligns with practices in neighboring countries like Malaysia and Singapore, promoting regional harmonization. The Australian government aims to streamline procurement processes, reduce administrative burdens, and encourage the adoption of international e-invoicing standards, further integrating Australia into global e-invoicing ecosystems.
