Chile is on the Road to E‑invoicing

After the introduction of voluntary electronic invoicing in 2001, the regulation was extended to all companies in 2014.  In addition, starting from January 2020, all taxpayers may only issue bills of lading electronically through the Internal Tax Service (SII) of Chile.

Currently, e-invoicing is mandatory for all companies in Chile, which must both issue and receive Electronic Tax Documents (DTEs) in XML format.

To issue DTEs (Electronic Tax Documents), taxpayers must register with the SII. After registration, a CAF (Folio Authorization Code) is obtained from the SII, and the taxpayer must then apply a digital signature using a proprietary certificate. Once the SII approves an e-invoice, it is sent to the service provider, who then forwards it to the customer.
